“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13
Safeguarding
At Our Lady Star of the Sea we aim to promote an environment where each member of our Parish Family is welcomed and cared for through friendship, compassion and prayer. As part of our inclusion we are very aware of the need for safeguarding all members of the Church.
To achieve this goal we follow the guidelines set down by the Catholic Safeguarding Advisory Service (CSAS) and the National Catholic Safeguarding Commission (NCSC).
Our Parish Safeguarding Representatives are Margaret Sellick and Annie Evans and their aim is to make sure that anyone working or dealing with children or vulnerable adults (eg Eucharistic Ministers visiting the Sick or Children’s Liturgy volunteers) is checked through the Disclosure and Barring Service - DBS) to ensure they are capable and suitable for working with the vulnerable. In addition, they keep an up to date log of volunteers in the many and varies roles within our Parish e.g. servers, readers, collectors, choirs, flower arrangers, greeters, cleaners etc… The representatives are supported by the Parish Priest and the staff at our Diocesan Safeguarding Office in Lancaster.
We all must be aware of safeguarding issues and be vigilant and ready to bring any issue we might be concerned about to the attention of the Safeguarding Representatives (Margaret.sellick@lred.org.uk / ann.evans@lred.org.uk ) or the Parish Priest.
